Your 1st Brazilian Wax - What to Expect
The Brazilian wax is a famous option among women. Wе will bе discussing how to prepare fоr it, what to expect and the aftermath.
Seven sisters, the J Sisters, brought the concept of the Brazilian wax to New York in 1987, and thanks to them and a couple of Sex and The City episodes, it’s become a pretty popular hair removal method. Compared to a normal bikini-line wax, this procedure differs by also removing the hair from the entire pubic area and inside the butt or you can choose to keep some hair as a strip.
One advantage оf the Brazilian was is that you no longer need to worry about any hair in your pubic area for a couple of weeks as compared to trimming or shaving, because the hair is grabbed from the root causing the regrowth to tаkе a longer time. You’ll enjoy a couple of weeks оf hаving a smooth va-jay-jay.
First you’ll want to be sure you have enough hair. If you currently shave, trim or use hair removal creams, you’ll need two FULL weeks (14 days) of hair growth or more, in order to be waxed. Please don’t wait a week then assume you have enough hair. You don’t! You’ll get to your appointment to either be turned away from not having enough hair or if they still wax you, it’ll be pretty painful from repeatedly waxing certain areas due to your wax specialist trying to capture the short, stubby hair. And it may not be a clean finish. So just bite the bullet and wait.
Next you want to be sure you go to a place that is known for specializing in Brazilian waxing and have good reviews for giving great Brazilian waxes. Don’t get too caught up in the different types of wax being used.
You can also take a pain reliever about an hour prior to your appointment to relieve discomfort. I don’t recommend numbing creams because you may become extremely irritated and you usually won’t feel much of a difference.
Wear comfortable undergarments to your appointment. I recommend ‘big ole granny panties’ or seamless underwear, but going commando is ideal. You also want to wear comfortable pants or a dress so “lady bits” can breathe after the service. Squeezing back into fitted jeans is not recommended after your waxing appointment, whether you’re a first timer or a regular waxer.
Another tip for getting a Brazilian wax for your first time and those that have it done regularly, is to be careful if you use panty liners. Panty liners can cause your labia (vulva lips) to chafe. Waxing chafed skin can lead to you being more sensitive to the service and your skin becoming raw.
While on the waxing table, you want to relax, try not to jump and trust that you chose the right specialist to get the job done. Trust me…it’ll be over before you know it and it’s well worth the couple of minutes of discomfort.
If done correctly, and depending on your hair type, vulva size and other factors, the service should only take 10-20 minutes depending on the specialist. Some places that take smaller strips can take about 30 minutes, but 45 minutes to an hour is not normal for a Brazilian wax.
The specialist should instruct you on how to treat your skin for the next couple of days after your wax. You can use a zinc oxide (diaper rash cream) if you have soreness for a day or so. After 3-5 days, you want to be sure to exfoliate with an organic exfoliating soap such as our Exfoliating Bar with goat milk, lavender and oatmeal grains. This will keep any clogged pathways open helping to eliminate ingrown hairs, but to ensure you’re on top of the ingrown hair-bump battle you’ll want to be sure you also have an ingrown hair-bump serum. Happy Girl’s Vadge Hair Bump Serum is the first plant-based serum on the market making it safe for our girl parts.
If you’re waxing for a special occasion like a vacation or honeymoon, you want to make sure that you wax 2 days prior to the occasion and that the majority of your hair has grown in before waxing, so it doesn’t start to grow back while you’re on your trip. Ideally, for best results, you want to wax twice prior to the important occasion. For example, if the occasion is in June, then you’d want your first wax to be in May then again in June, 2-3 days before the occasion. This goes for full-leg waxing too. If it’s too late to wax twice prior to the occasion, then just be sure to wait as long as you can possibly stand for hair regrowth since your last shave, trim or cream removal. For example, waiting for a month will help to ensure the various hair cycles have grown in. This will give you a cleaner finish and delay for the hair to grow back.
